Spring brings fresh air, blooming trees, and renewed energy. At the United States Naval Academy, it also brings an unforgettable season of music. Throughout spring, the Yard fills with harmonies, marching cadences, and symphonic sounds that capture both the spirit of the season and the pride of the Brigade.
Whether you’re drawn to stirring patriotic anthems, high-energy marches, or even classical music for spring, there’s something on the calendar to lift your spirits.
Even better, when you attend performances, dine on the Yard, or shop in Academy stores like the USNA Gift Shop or Navyonline.com, you’re directly supporting midshipmen programs - including cultural arts, music, theater, and club sports activities that strengthen teamwork and camaraderie.
Let’s take a look at the musical highlights of the season.
The USNA Men’s and Women’s Glee Clubs are a cornerstone of spring performances. Their concerts blend tradition with innovation, featuring everything from sacred hymns and contemporary choral works to the beloved Navy song, “Anchors Aweigh.”
Spring concerts often include collaborations with professional musicians and special guests, including world-renowned soprano Renée Fleming. Signature selections like “Eternal Father, Strong to Save,” and the spirited Navy fight song, “Blue and Gold,” bring audiences to their feet.
During Commissioning Week, both groups will also join forces with the Gospel Choir in a powerful celebration of the graduating class on May 19th.
If you appreciate vocal precision and patriotic pride, this is a must-see event.

Few sounds define spring at the Academy like the bold cadence of the Naval Academy Drum and Bugle Corps. Founded in 1914, this iconic Drum and Bugle Corps performs more than 100 times each year in support of the Brigade.
You’ll see them leading formations, energizing dress parades, and performing at major Yard ceremonies. For fans of traditional military music with a modern twist, their intricate marching formations and sharp musical precision are a highlight of spring.
Of course, no performance is complete without the rousing Navy fight song. When those first notes ring out across Tecumseh Court, the pride is unmistakable. They are masters of the Navy anthem.
The USNA Drum and Bugle Corps’ spring concert offers an opportunity to experience their full repertoire in a dedicated performance setting. They also play key roles during Commissioning Week ceremonies, adding pageantry and tradition to milestone events.
Their spring concert this year is on April 23th at Mahan Hall, and they’ll play during Commissioning Week for the demonstration on May 20th and the Color Parade on May 21st.

The USNA Gospel Choir brings soul and inspiration to the spring lineup. Their repertoire ranges from traditional spirituals and hymns to contemporary gospel arrangements. Known for their rich harmonies and passionate performances, the choir has appeared at nationally significant events and community venues alike.
They’ll perform in nearby Chesterfield, Virginia, as the guest choir at New Deliverance Evangelistic Church on April 12th. During Commissioning Week, they’ll join the Glee Clubs in a powerful concert at the Chapel on May 19th, a moment that blends reflection, celebration, and gratitude.
It’s a performance that will resonate long after the final note.
