Navy Inter-Collegiate Sailing Team Events

The U.S. Naval Academy boasts one of the most prestigious and competitive sailing programs in the country. Throughout the spring, midshipmen take to the waters, competing against other top college teams in a series of intense regattas. Here are some key events to keep on your compass:

• ICSA National Championships – The Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association’s Championship Series is one of the biggest events of the year, where the best college sailing teams battle for national titles. The Naval Academy has a long-standing tradition of excellence in this competition, making it a must-watch event. Keep your eyes peeled for the ICSA Team Race National Championship, running from May 16th–18th this year.
• Annapolis-to-Newport Race – One of the most anticipated offshore sailing races, this grueling event takes competitors on a 475-mile journey from Annapolis, Maryland, to Newport, Rhode Island. Sailors push themselves to the limit, demonstrating incredible resilience and endurance. The fastest race on record ran 40 hours, 14 minutes and 36 seconds in 2017, and the longest was 92 hours and 20 minutes in 1955. This year, the 40th run, starts in Annapolis on Friday, June 6th and wraps up by June 11th in Newport. Come be a part of the action and cheer on the midshipmen when the racers launch from the Annapolis Yacht Club on June 6th!

• Annapolis Yacht Club Series – A thrilling weekly racing series featuring local and visiting sailors on Wednesday nights (called Wednesday Night Racing, or WNR), these casual (yet competitive) events are a beloved tradition on the Chesapeake Bay, featuring a variety of boats and crews vying for victory against stunning waterfront views. The series runs in three sessions from April 23rd - May 28th, June 4th - July 16th, and July 23rd - August 27th. They never disappoint!
• Regattas - The Annapolis Yacht Club also hosts a special Helly Hansen Sailing World Regatta Series from May 2nd - 4th, along with a number of other exciting regattas throughout the spring and summer. Come and experience the spirit of adventure in the heart of Annapolis, the “Sailing Capital of the World.”
